Do you groom sedated pets?
We do not offer grooming services to pets who are sedated. Oftentimes, these medications can make the pet more reactive—their behavior can be difficult to predict, which can put the pet (and the groomer) at greater risk during the groom. Medications that the pet takes daily are excluded from this policy. For the safety of the pet, as well as the groomer, please inform us of your pet’s medications before their arrival in case we need to ask you to reschedule your appointment. If you have questions about a medication your pet receives, call the salon directly to discuss your options.
How much will my grooming service cost?
Each pet's grooming service is priced based upon the time the service takes to complete. Factors that impact service time include: size of your pet, coat type and length, coat condition, length since last grooming service, behavior of the pet, and any special considerations (age, physical limitations, etc.). Due to such a wide range of factors, your groomer will give you a price upon meeting your pet and assessing each client's grooming needs and request.
Do you express anal glands?
Our policy is to check anal glands on all pets. Your veterinary provider can express the glands internally, so please keep in mind that visiting your vet is always the best option. If you would like for us to not check your pet’s glands, or if your pet has a history of issues with their glands, please inform us at check-in.
Will you pluck my dog's ears?
Our recommendation to owners whose dogs grow an excess of hair inside the ear canal is to have a conversation with your veterinary provider on what they suggest. A decade ago, common practice would dictate the hair should be plucked from the ear canal to allow for easier airflow and to prevent ear infections. Today, there is much research stating that the excessive plucking of the ear can cause trauma to the ear canal which can cause ear infections. Many vets have differing opinions on the best approach. We are happy to assist you with whichever option you and your vet decide upon together.
Do you offer dematting?
While our groomers are all trained in the least invasive, safest method of dematting, our primary focus is always on the well-being of the pet. Your groomer will assess the matting and inform you of what your options are. During your pre-groom consultation, if matting is present the groomer will offer service options based on the severity and location of the mats. Each See Spot Full Grooming Services includes 10 minutes of tangle removal- not dematting.
Do you require vaccination records?
No. We acknowledge that there are many schools of thought on pet vaccines and would rather leave those discussions to the medical professionals. We simply require that you have a current relationship with a veterinarian, and rely on you and your vet to make the best medical choices for your pet. While pets do not have contact with pets from other households while in our care and we practice individual and facility cleaning procedures, please discuss your pet's individual risk when leaving your household with your medical provider.
Do you groom Senior Pets?
Yes, with some restrictions. If your pet is a current client of See Spot Grooming, we will continue to offer grooming as long as we can safely service your pet. We may suggest a Comfort Groom as your pet ages so that we can extend our professional relationship and keep your pet more comfortable during the process. See Spot does not accept pets over the age of 15 as new clients but are happy to assist you with a referral to a groomer inside a veterinarian practice who specializes in Comfort Grooms.
Do you use muzzles?
Yes. We believe that the correct usage of proper restraints for those pets who need them is key to a safe and successful grooming service. We will always be transparent with you about how your pet’s visit went.
What age should I bring my puppy in to be groomed for the first time?
As soon as they are cleared by your veterinarian! We love to see puppies as early as possible to introduce them to the grooming process. The younger, and more often, we see them, the better! It’s a great, big grooming world out there and we believe taking the time to socialize puppies to the process slowly and correctly has a huge impact on the rest of their lives. Because of that, we will not offer Full Grooming services to first-time puppies, except under extreme circumstances. This sets your puppy up for success for their entire grooming lifetime. We offer Deluxe Spa Baths for puppies on their first 2-3 visits, and then move them to full grooming services. Any dogs over 6 months old that have never been groomed will need to visit one of our Behavioral Groomers, as they have missed crucial socialization time for a safe and enjoyable grooming experience.
Do you groom cats?
Although See Spot Grooming has always serviced cats, we created the Cat Club @ See Spot St Matthews to increase safety, descrease stress, and enhance the grooming experience for both cat and client. We created a one-on-one grooming model in a cats-only designated area of our St Matthews groomng salon, and cats will only be serviced at this location. Our groomers have undergone cat-specific technical training from the National Cat Groomers Institute, and the products and services offered are designed to create the best results for each cat's sepcific needs based upon breed, lifestyle, behavior and maintenance schedule. The Cat Club @ See Spot St Matthews is open Monday - Friday from 8am-6pm.
How often should I have my pet groomed?
This depends on many factors—type of coat, desired style, your lifestyle, and budget. We are happy to work with you to construct a style that fits your lifestyle, your schedule, and your budget. Ask your groomer for a recommendation today!
Does it matter which groomer I choose to groom my pet?
While we maintain the same strict safety, quality, and technical knowledge standards across the board, each groomer has their own unique style, skill set, and education level. We recommend choosing a groomer whose skill set or style best reflects your goals for your pet. We are happy to offer a range of personality type and rest assured knowing that every client can find a home with one of our groomers. Still unsure who to book with? Visit your desired store’s page and read their bios!
I found somewhere that will groom my dog cheaper. Will you honor that price?
No. We have high standards across the board—from our client interactions, our safety protocol, the quality of the work, education, and knowledge your groomer has achieved as well as our state of the art equipment. We are proud of what we do! In an unlicensed and unregulated industry, we guarantee you will notice the difference from the moment you join the See Spot client family.
Why would you recommend I receive grooming services from a Veterinarian-based groomer?
While we enjoy every pet we service and hope to enjoy a long relationship with your pet (and you!), there may come a time that we can no longer provide grooming services to you based upon health or safety issues for your pet's well-being. If this is the case, we will refer you to a professional who is able to provide your pet's service inside a veterinarian office. Please understand that this is for the best interest and continued health of your pet. We value your trust in these difficult situations and pledge to always put your pet's needs first.
Will my pet be in a holding area/cage? How long can my pet stay at See Spot?
Yes. In order to ensure that pets are safe and responsibly cared for- your pet must be secured in a holding area at various stages of the grooming service. Each client should ensure that for the health and safety of your pet, your pet is comfortable with the holding process. We only offer Express Services for pets for medical or behavioral necessity- and are unable to offer express services to pets for convenience reasons. You will have one hour after your grooming service is completed to pick up your pet. Your groomer will call you when finished. If your pet needs to stay in the salon longer, we are more than happy to accommodate your pet, but we will charge a holding fee of $5/per pet/per hour outside of that complimentary time frame. The holding fee applies to early drop offs and pick ups after 1 hour from completion of service. This fee covers the cost of staff members who are caring for your pet during their visit. Pets from the same family should schedule their appointments within 2 hours of one another for their best care and comfort.
Do you groom pets with Fleas or Ticks?
We do not encourage or actively service pets with parasite infestations, but if we do encounter a pet with an external parasite, we charge a parasite handling fee of $25. A groomer's job is to service a normal, healthy pet but anything outside of that range will be referred to a veterinarian. We do not remove ticks from your pet and will refer you to a veterinarian for care.
Who can drop my pet off for a grooming appointment?
We recognize that your pet is a valued family member, and there are times when various family members or friends may drop your pet off for services. The person dropping the pet off will have custody and give your groomer consent to the services and pricing they discuss. If you need to speak with your groomer, please make arrangements to drop your pet off yourself. When you fill out your annual Client Form, you agree that the person dropping your pet off is responsible for all decisions regarding your pet's care at that service.
Do you offer an Express Service?
Express services are offered only for pets that have a medical or behavioral need and are offered at a groomer's determination. These services are billed at twice our regular shop rate. If an Express service is required to complete your pet's groom safely, your groomer will discuss this option with you and explain in detail how to make your future appointments.
